Virginia Free Range Chicken:You Don’t Miss What You Never Had

I was working this morning on the farm and had a light bulb moment. I was thinking about it being fall and it is about time to process a hog or two and how wonderful the fresh sausage was going to taste. I was wondering how many people have never eaten fresh sausage.

If you never had farm fresh sausage… Mummm boy I feel sorry for ya. But, if you have never eaten our Virginia free range chicken eggs I really feel sorry for you.

When our children were young they knew immediately when we ran out of fresh sausage. When Mom was forced to buy sausage from the grocery we had to listen to five children (and Dad:)  whine and complain about how bad the sausage gravy was.

I thought I was eating fresh sausage when I was a kid. We would go to the butcher shop back then to get our fresh sausage . That was pretty close to fresh and better than what we get in the grocery store today but, it is not the same.

I realized we take good nutritious food for granted.  I was going out back this morning to see how much work I had to do cutting trails for rabbit hunters. Hunting in Virginia is big sport. Rabbit hunting, deer hunting and especially quail hunting is in Virgina sportsmens blood.

Besides being good hunters… most of them should have gone to culinary school and become chefs. My father would have fit in this club. He knew ten different ways to fix rabbit and they were all good. And the quail we ate when I was a kid was the best tasting food I think I ever put in my mouth.

I know we grow the best Virginia free range chicken you have ever put in

your mouth. We know at the end of the day not only will our free range chicken eggs and our pastured raised  broilers taste good but we know they provide healthy nutrition for your family.

My light bulb moment this morning was I realized there are a lot of folks who have never eaten fresh sausage. Then I realized there are a lot of folks who have never eaten wild game like rabbit, deer or my favorite quail. Being on the farm we take good tasting nutritious food for granted and it is hard for us to fathom there are people who have never eaten this wonderful food.

Then I realized there are lots of people who have never eaten nor understand about our Virginia free range chickens but moreover they don’t know what they are missing.

If this is the first time to our site it is time to take the plunge and find the things you don’t know your missing. In the process you can have fun finding  fresh food. Take a day and go visit a farm. You might get lucky and they will be cooking… something fantastic. You might get real lucky and the smoker is going:)

If you are a customer start “cackling” and let your friends and neighbors know about our Virginia free range chickens and pastured raised broilers.

Stop believing the pretty packaging with pictures of Norman Rockwell type farms and picture perfect animals in the grocery store. We see small farms all the time and none of our farms look like those pictures. We work for a living.

We love working with our hands and most of the time in the dirt. There is nothing more satisfying than watching things grow. From our 5 children to our 4.5 grandchildren. On the farm we get time to build things, dig, till, and cultivate the soil everyday. It is something that comes natural. While it is hard work we ... Love it! We thought our farm grew the greatest crop you can ever grow... 5 children. But we are beginning to wonder if our greatest crop is ... is coming on.. Our grandchildren. At Nature's Choice Farms we work with nature to grow the greatest things God has provided for all of us. Our greatest gift is to grow things to share with our neighbors. From all of us at Nature's Choice Farms... WELCOME!
